De La Salle Santiago Zobel’s Education
De La Salle Santiago Zobel is a private sectarian school that lives by the values of St. John Baptist de La Salle, specifically the values of Faith, Service and Community. The school offers a K-12 education program for the students. Although at first thought, you may think that this program is less efficient for the students but in truth, they are actually beneficial for the students’ formation. This program provides sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills and develops the students to be lifelong learners. The salient features featured in this program are, the strengthening of childhood education, the formation of proficiency through language, the relevance of the curriculum to the students, and it gears up the students for the future. The grading system of the school has recently been updated. It is now following the curriculum, Knowledge, Process, Understanding and Product. Knowledge would be 15%, Process 25%, Understanding 30% and Product 30%. Knowledge relies more on the memorization and the amount of information the student knows, Process focuses on the different techniques and ways the student uses to achieve the correct answer, Understanding is usually in the format of an essay. It makes the student think outside the box of their topic and apply it in real-life situations. Lastly, Product is the project output of the student. This new curriculum, compared to the old one, is more efficient. The new curriculum makes the student apply his knowledge and understanding of the different subject’s topics.
The education system in De La Salle Santiago Zobel is the basic education curriculum in different accredited schools. The curriculum is divided into 2 departments; the Grade School and High School department. The Grade School curriculum is divided into six learning areas: Reading, Mathematics, Filipino, Science, Language and MAKABAYAN. The High School curriculum, on the other hand, is divided into ten learning areas: Christian Living, Filipino, Science, Mathematics, English, Music, Art, THELE, Physical Education and Social Studies. A regular school day consists of 8 hours with a 45-minute and 25-minute breaks. The ambiance of the school and its facilites helps in motivating the students to excel in their academics. The teachers are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge that moulds the students into becoming student achievers for God and country.
